Basement Walls
Once you have drained water away at the perimeter of your basement floor, and made sure that it's pumped out reliably, the next thing to address is your basement wall. Typically you can get your basement floor dry without doing anything to your basement walls - but in some cases, especially with stone or block walls, a basement wall waterproofing system may be necessary.
Even if the walls aren't visibly leaking water, a basement wall still allows water vapor to pass through. Block walls not only allow lots of water vapor through because of their hollow core, but cold (and damp) outside air easily passes through. And air, water, and water vapor can easily pass through stone walls as well.
Are your basement walls damp, stained, chalky, flaky, and ugly? Are you happy with them? Chances are the answer is no. So what can you have done?
There are a few options including coatings, paneling, and vapor barriers.
BrightWall
One is Brightwall. Brightwall wall paneling drains water behind the internal french drain and out of your home. The Brightwall system is easily cleaned, very bright, and provides a very clean professional look.
Zenwall
Zenwall is another paneling system that
are the easiest basement finishing walls on the market. Zenwall
actually channels water to the internal French drain under the footing,
to the sump pump, then out of the home. It is 100% inorganic
material so it will resist mold growth for the lifetime of the product.
